Pawan Hans has deployed helicopters for major pilgrimage sites in India to make travel simple and safe for pilgrims who visit these shrines every year. Some of Pawan Hans services include helicopter travel to the Kedarnath Ji shrine & Amarnath Ji Shrine.
Kedarnath Ji Shrine
Pawan Hans has also made it convenient for pilgrims to visit the Kedarnath Ji shrine at a reasonable ticket cost of Rs.7000. Pawan Hans arranges for priority darshan for the pilgrims at the rate decided by the Kedarnath Shrine Board. The company deploys Bell helicopters during the season (May-June & September-October) from Phata to Kedarnath shrine. Pawan Hans carried more than 5142 passengers and earned revenue of Rs.1.90 crores during the last season from the services to the shrine. Pawan Hans also provides charter flights from Dehradun to Kedarnath depending on passenger traffic.
Amarnath Ji Shrine
Pawan Hans has also made it convenient for pilgrims to visit the Amarnath Ji shrine. As per the Contract awarded to Pawan Hans, by Amarnathji Shrine Board the company deploys Bell helicopters during the season (June/July/August) from Neelgrath to Panjtarni and back.
Hot-line Insulator Washing
For the first time in India Pawan Hans has provided valuable services for washing the insulators of high-tension wires under live current conditions for Power Grid Corporation Ltd. (PGCL) since November 2008. Pawan Hans has deployed Bell helicopter, fitted with specialized equipment to clean the insulator ring using a seven-meter boom and De-mineralized water.
This service, Pawan Hans is presently undertaking in North India, where fog and air pollution from industries gets deposited on insulators thereby causing power lines to trip. Before Pawan Hans’s initiative, Power Grid had been forced to manually clean these insulators for which the power lines had to be shutdown.
Pawan Hans has cleaned 1600 high-tension towers in the NCR region, where the insulators range from 400 KV/500 KV. Pawan Hans has achieved a record of sorts by washing 2141 towers in just 333 hours.
At the same time, the prevention of tripping of the Northern Grid during the winter season with the help of this service is another feather in Pawan Hans’s cap.
Rohini Heliport : In field of infrastructure development, Pawan Hans has taken an initiative to develop a state-of-art heliport in Delhi at Rohini which is first of its kind in India. This will facilitate to cover helicopter operations, MRO and Training academy for pilots and technical personnel.
Akshardham Helipad : A helipad had also been developed in Commonwealth Games Village, New Delhi to support the Commonwealth Games-2010.
Hadapsar Gliding Centre, Pune : Pawan Hans is also developing Hadapsar Gliding Centre for Helicopter Training, MRO and helicopter operations.
With innovation as its guiding principle and a history of significant contributions to aviation in India, Pawan Hans is the pioneer in introduction of seaplane services in India. Pawan Hans in association with Andaman & Nicobar Administration introduced Seaplane operations first time in India in year 2011 at Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
It is also exploring the possibilities for starting Seaplane services in other States as well and accordingly, PHL is in the process of acquiring seaplanes.
Fleet Expansion Plan
The Pawan Hans fleet of helicopters is fully deployed by the company for its various services and there has been a significant and steady rise in demand for Pawan Hans’s helicopters from various sectors like Law and Order, medical services, tourism. In view of the growth potential for its business, Pawan Hans has plan to expand its fleet by 100 helicopters in next few years.
