Now, catch a chopper to Bagdogra
KOLKATA: Pawan Hans, a leading helicopter company, is all set to venture into flight service on the Kolkata-Bagdogra-Coochbehar route within the next two months, said Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Pawan Hans used to operate choppers in the nineties in this sector, but later had to withdraw it. Even Deccan Charter had tried operating flights on the ventured into Kolkata-Coochbehar route, but they did not find it viable. this was not found to be a viable sector.
The state government, which earlier used to provide subsidy to Deccan Charter for eight seats, has planned to pay a similar subsidy to Pawan Hans for the three months. After the said period expires, the government will review things and decide accordingly.
Now similarly the state government will be providing subsidy to Pawan Hans for eight seats for the first three months and then things will be reviewed.
The state is going to provide subsidy to The services by Pawan Hans to introduce 18 to 24-seater planes on this route which will help improve for improving air link with these areas and as this will help to boost tourism and industry in North Bengal. tnnMoreover, there are plans to start services on the Kolkata-Haldia route that may later connect even and there are plans for the connecting Balurghat and Malda.
Apart from launching sea planes in Sunderbans, Pawan Hans is also mulling to start helicopter services in Digha and Tajpur.

At present, the company is busy inviting tenders so that they can has started the tender process for buy aircrafts for operations in Bengal.
